Alan Pardew is fully on board the Newcastle United train this season.
It’s been a mixed start to the season for Newcastle United, although they now appear to have turned a corner.
Indeed, Eddie Howe’s side ended a positive few days with a crucial three points in the Premier League on Sunday.
Shortly after the Magpies recorded their first win of their Champions League campaign, Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest 2-0.
They head into the international break 11th in the Premier League table but, crucially, they are only five points behind the top four and things look to be gathering momentum.
Watching on, former Toon manager Pardew made a big claim about what could lie ahead this season.

Alan Pardew twice claims Newcastle United can win the Premier League
Pardew suggested that Newcastle were an outside contender to win the Premier League title this season.
Speaking after the Forest game, he suggested that exciting times could come for those at St James’ Park.
“I think Newcastle, definitely, are in the shout for perhaps even winning the league,” he said.

Even when he was picked up on such a big claim by co-presenter Majestic, Pardew doubled down.
“Yeah, I think they’re definitely a contender, I do. When I look at the other teams, if I was Eddie with the squad that he’s got and the momentum and he’s got the crowd firmly on his side. He’s got enough tools in his little kit bag.
“They obviously got the cup out of the way in terms of winning a trophy. Less pressure on them, I think they’ve got a massive chance.”
It’s promising to hear of such optimism but even the most ardent Newcastle fan would surely admit that’s somewhat unlikely. Howe’s side are already seven points behind leaders Arsenal, who have shown little sign of slowing down in recent weeks.
Where Newcastle United have been predicted to finish in the Premier League table
Getting anywhere close to the title would be a major improvement on Opta’s supercomputer prediction on where Newcastle will finish this season.
Their analysis tipped Howe’s side to finish sixth this season. While, clearly, that is far from an exact science, it is worth noting that Opta got their Newcastle prediction for the 2024/25 season correct.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 9 | 7 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 7 | 6 | 1 | 11 | |
| 10 | 7 | 3 | 1 | 3 | 9 | 11 | -2 | 10 | |
| 11 | 7 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 6 | 5 | 1 | 9 | |
| 12 | 7 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 10 | 10 | 0 | 9 |
They predicted Newcastle to finish fifth, which is exactly what played out.
It seems reasonable to assume that Newcastle will improve on their current position but the title seems out of reach…
