After Kieran Trippier, 26-year-old Newcastle player was also missing from training on Wednesday

Kieran Trippier was not the only major name to miss Newcastle United training on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old is out of action with a calf injury, and is set to miss the Magpies’ next two fixtures. That means Tino Livramento will get a chance in the starting XI in his favoured position, having played a lot of his football this season on the left of defence.

Newcastle United are yet to officially confirm Kieran Trippier‘s injury, but Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie was at the club’s training ground on Wednesday to see Eddie Howe put his players through their paces ahead of facing Chelsea on Monday night.

Downie confirmed that Trippier was not involved in the session, and that was also the case for another first-team star.

Harvey Barnes also missed Newcastle United training on Wednesday

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Downie stated that Harvey Barnes was also missing from Newcastle United’s training session on Wednesday.

He said: “There was no Harvey Barnes today, so I’ll try and get an update on why that was. And, as I’ve said already, no Kieran Trippier, who will be missing the next couple of weeks with that calf strain.”

Hopefully nothing for Newcastle to worry about ahead of Chelsea

As Downie says, it is unclear why Barnes was not involved in Wednesday’s session.

The 26-year-old has only recently returned from a lengthy layoff, having missed almost four months with a very strange foot injury. He made his comeback on February 3rd against Luton Town, and has started one game since ending his injury nightmare. That was the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

Barnes has featured in Newcastle’s previous six fixtures, and will hope to make it seven on Monday night at Stamford Bridge. It will be a tough game for the Magpies, who will be out for revenge after their Carabao Cup disappoint there back in December.

Howe will have a much stronger squad available for this trip to Chelsea, and hopefully it is a squad that includes Barnes. He did not train on Wednesday, and we await news on whether his midweek absence is anything to worry about.

Fingers crossed it is not!
