Ryan Fraser is not going to be returning to Newcastle United despite suffering a knee injury.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Southampton, but is set for some time on the sidelines. Ryan Fraser was forced off during the Saints’ loss to Millwall at the weekend, following a robust challenge in the 19th minute.

The Scotland international has been doing really well in a Southampton shirt, but is now going to be missing for about a month due to the knee problem he sustained on Saturday.

Often when players who are out on loan get injured, they return to their parent club for treatment. However, Southampton manager Russell Martin has confirmed that will not be the case for Fraser following this setback.

Ryan Fraser not returning to Newcastle United for treatment

Martin has been speaking to Southampton’s official website following news of Fraser’s injury, and confirmed that he will remain on the south coast for treatment.

“He’s going to be out for a little bit of time, unfortunately,” he said.

“Bit of a blow for us, big blow for him, but we’ll have him back probably the other side of the international break. Very, very soon after that, hopefully, all being well.

“I don’t think he’s got any desire to go there [Newcastle] and get treatment, he wants to be a part of it here and be a part of the dressing room. He’s a really big character in the dressing room, so we lose something when he doesn’t play which is his relentless running ability, his ability to cross on the move, his desire to go and score and assist and work hard for the team and the others need to step up now.”

No surprise that Fraser does not want Newcastle return

It is not a major surprise to hear that Fraser does not want to return to Newcastle United to receive treatment on his injury.

He was axed from Eddie Howe’s first-team last year, and has absolutely no future on Tyneside. Fraser knows that his time as a Newcastle player is done, so it is a good job for him that he is doing so well at Southampton.

His manager is very happy with how he is doing, and recently spoke about wanting to sign Fraser to a permanent contract.

Hopefully that happens in the summer and we can officially call time on Ryan Fraser’s Newcastle United nightmare.

He was signed by Steve Bruce on a free in 2020, and struggled to have any impact in black and white. The winger did enjoy a purple patch following Howe’s arrival, but ultimately fell out with the Newcastle manager.
