29-year-old Newcastle player has now ‘travelled’ to Aston Villa, but he’s not 100% fit

It sounds like Newcastle United are definitely going to be boosted by the return of Miguel Almiron tonight.

The 29-year-old missed the Magpies’ FA Cup win over Fulham on Saturday night due to illness, while rumours have continued to swirl surrounding a possible move away from St James’ Park.

Miguel Almiron has been linked with a move to Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia, with Newcastle looking to receive a fee of around £30million. If they got that, they would suddenly be able to sign some players and be active in the January transfer market.

However, it was reported on Monday night that a transfer away from Tyneside suddenly looked very unlikely, and that would coincide with him returning for Tuesday evening’s game against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Now the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has provided an update on the Almiron situation, just hours before the Magpies take on Unai Emery’s team.

Miguel Almiron travels with Newcastle to Aston Villa

Hope has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to tell Toon fans that Almiron has travelled with the Newcastle United squad for tonight’s game against Aston Villa.

He wrote: “Miguel Almiron has travelled to Villa with Newcastle. Still not 100% after illness but in squad, and that would rule out move to Saudi (whose deadline is tonight).”

No January transfer for Miguel Almiron

As Hope says, the fact that Almiron is on his way to Villa Park rules out a move to Saudi Arabia, with the transfer window there due to close tonight.

In turn, that should lead to a quiet few days on the transfer front, as Newcastle simply do not have any money to spend this month. That is down to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, as opposed to the owners not wanting to put their hands in their pockets.

That is a shame, but Howe will be delighted that Almiron is staying put. He made it very clear last week that he wanted the Paraguay international to remain a Newcastle United player.

Howe is getting his wish, and might be able to turn to the £21million man tonight. That will give the Toon boss options in attack, as he welcomed Jacob Murphy back from injury at the weekend as well.

That is a huge boost for Howe, who has rarely been able to turn to his bench in recent months.
