Newcastle United fans have received a positive update on Kieran Trippier from Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Magpies are set to face Chelsea at St James’ Park on Saturday, with Eddie Howe’s squad still rather depleted due to injuries – just like it was before the international break.

A further issue emerged at the weekend when it was confirmed that Kieran Trippier was pulling out of the England squad due to a personal matter.

No further details were given, but it was reported that Trippier was not expected to miss any football with Newcastle United.

That now looks set to be the case following the latest tweet from Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.

Keith Downie provides positive update on Kieran Trippier

Downie has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to provide an encouraging update on Trippier’s status ahead of Newcastle’s game against Chelsea on Saturday.

“Kieran Trippier was back training with Newcastle today and is set to face Chelsea this weekend,” he wrote.

“The defender withdrew from the England squad for “a personal matter” and missed last night’s draw with Macedonia. The issue isn’t expected to keep Trippier out of Saturday’s match.”

Good news for Newcastle

It is great to hear that Trippier is back in training alongside his Newcastle United teammates.

That should mean that he is available for Saturday’s game, where the £12million man could be asked to play out of position.

It looks likely that Eddie Howe will have to play one of Trippier or Tino Livramento on the left of defence. That is because Matt Targett and Dan Burn are both injured, while Lewis Hall is ineligible to play against his parent club.

That could lead to Trippier being asked to move over to the left, which is a position he has played in before.

It remains unclear why Trippier pulled out of the England squad ahead of the Three Lions’ second game against North Macedonia. Hopefully it remains that way, as it was a personal matter and the 33-year-old’s privacy should be respected.

Whatever it was or is, Trippier will receive the full support of the Toon Army when he lines up to face Chelsea on Saturday, which he looks set to do.
