Newcastle United have not had much luck on the injury front this season.

Eddie Howe has been left without so many of his key players for what feels like an age as battling across a number of different competitions takes a major strain on the squad.

So, during the international break, Newcastle will be keen to wrap their players up in cotton wool.

Some major games await when domestic action resumes, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain up next.

With that in mind, it will be a concern to read another key player has been forced out of international duty.

Kieran Trippier: Newcastle star withdraws from England squad

Indeed, Kieran Trippier has been forced to withdraw from the England squad who are set to play north Macedonia on Monday night.

He started Friday’s win over Malta at right-back before moving to the left when Kyle Walker was introduced in the second-half.

On Sunday, the FA confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the 33-year-old had left the camp due to a “personal matter”.

Kieran Trippier: Newcastle need star back to his best

Speculation in regards to whether or not he will be able to feature against Chelsea would of course be unwise due to the nature of his withdrawal.

In a general sense, however, Newcastle need their £12m star back to his best.

Hailed as defensively “nasty” by Alan Shearer and also the player to have created the most chances in the Premier League this season, he is so important to Newcastle at their best. Arguments with a fan aside, he remains one of Howe’s most effective outlets.

Like the rest of the team, Trippier has looked rather tired in recent games but his experience will be key heading into some massive games for the club.

Though Tino Livramento is impressing, he cannot match his teammate for big-game nous and knowhow.
