Newcastle United are suddenly short of a striker following news of Callum Wilson’s injury.
The 32-year-old is set to miss two months of action, with Callum Wilson out injured with a hamstring problem.
It is a crushing blow for the player and for Newcastle United. After working so hard to get fit, his body has broken down again.
It leaves the Magpies light in attack, while Newcastle will not target a striker in January despite the latest news involving Wilson.
That means Alexander Isak will have to lead the line on his own, while Anthony Gordon might be asked to play as a central striker from time to time.
Alternatively, it could result in Will Osula getting more opportunities.

Eddie Howe hails Will Osula ahead of Newcastle vs Leicester
Following news of Wilson’s injury, Newcastle fans called on Osula to get a chance, and it sounds like that might just happen.
Eddie Howe spoke to the media ahead of Newcastle’s game against Leicester City on Saturday, admitting that he has no qualms about picking the 21-year-old.
“We’re doing a lot of work with Will Osula behind the scenes,” he said.
“He’s progressing nicely, so I would have no hesitation in playing him.”
Howe added: “I’ve been really impressed with him. I think now, with having worked with him for a few months, he’s readier than he’s ever been. Obviously, with Callum’s injury, he’s going to have to step up and grab any opportunity that comes his way.
“He has all the attributes… I think supporters who have watched him play in the brief time that he’s played will have seen that he’s big, he’s very quick and he’s strong, there’s just a refinement that’s needed, and the only thing that can bring that is time. But he’s certainly getting there.”
Newcastle ready to rely on Will Osula with loan exit now unlikely
It has been a tough start for Osula since his £10million move from Sheffield United to Newcastle.
Opportunities have been limited, with the forward only making six appearances so far. Out of those six appearances, his only start was in the Carabao Cup against Wimbledon.
He saw his minutes diminish even further when Callum Wilson returned, with Osula an unused substitute during the number nine’s four-game comeback.
But now Wilson is out of action again, and Howe insists that the summer signing is ready to step up. He is more ready than he has ever been, which is a testament to the work he has been putting in on the training ground.
Howe thinks Osula has really improved, and hopefully he gets the chance to prove as much during this busy run of fixtures.
Newcastle United really need Osula to step up in the absence of Wilson. Fingers crossed he delivers.
