Newcastle United have another striker crisis courtesy of Callum Wilson’s latest injury.
The Newcastle United number nine had only just returned to full fitness, having missed the start of the season with a back and a hamstring problem.
After just four substitute appearances, Callum Wilson is now injured again. The Daily Mail have reported that the 32-year-old is going to miss two months of football due to a new hamstring injury.
Wilson has now confirmed the injury via his official Instagram account, issuing a statement to supporters to share how upset and frustrated he is.
Toon fans are also frustrated, as this latest injury blow leave Newcastle very light in attack. To make matters more concerning, Wilson’s injury is not going to change Newcastle’s January plans.
Newcastle will still prioritise a winger, despite Eddie Howe suddenly being in desperate need of cover for Alexander Isak.
However, for a lot of Toon fans, the answer to Howe’s problem is staring him in the face.
Newcastle United fans hope for Will Osula chance after Callum Wilson injury blow

Unsurprisingly, there has been a huge reaction on social media to the Callum Wilson injury news.
A lot of Newcastle fans on X believe that the Wilson blow should result in Will Osula getting more opportunities, with the 21-year-old barely featuring since his £10million arrival from Sheffield United.
For this Newcastle fan, it is time for the youngster to be given a chance, writing: “Hope Osula gets the chance to step up and prove himself now Wilson is injured.”
A second supporter added: “Maybe this new Wilson injury will see Osula get a run for us as a legitimate backup, we paid enough for him.”
This member of the Toon Army commented: “Hope they feel Osula is up to the level and can be trusted soon. So clear the club needs a capable and consistently fit CF as backup to Isak, whether it be him or a signing.”
“Gutted with the news on Wilson’s injury but on the upside hopefully this force Eddie’s hand to start using Osula,” posted a fourth supporter, who thinks Howe could now be forced to use the backup forward.
Another Newcastle fan is ‘gutted for Wilson’, but hopes that Osula gets his chance: “Gutted for Wilson. The club needs to let him go when his contract is up. If we can loan a player to replace him in January (we have 5 keepers in our squad) that could work. Osula too needs to be given a chance or two in December, has looked bright when coming on.”
Finally, this fan produced a passionate argument to explain why Osula should get a chance: “I would like to see Osula get more minutes. I do think he needs some work in his decision making and his link/hold up play is inconsistent but he is absolutely relentless. His off ball movements are really really good and will give CB’s a headache. When chasing games this relentlessness and constant movement could bring us some joy. From the small bits we’ve seen I’ve been really impressed and I think he deserves more chances.”
How much Will Osula has played for Newcastle United this season
During Wilson’s period of fitness, Osula did not play a single minute. He was a consistent figure on the substitute bench, but did not feature against West Ham, Crystal Palace, Liverpool or Brentford.
Now Wilson is out, Osula’s chances of playing will increase.
He has certainly been available to Howe, with Osula an ever-present this season. The striker has been in every matchday squad for Newcastle United, but has only made six appearances so far. Sadly, Osula is yet to score or provide an assist for the Magpies.
Four of those appearances have been in the Premier League, coming off the bench against Fulham, Brighton, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.
Howe says that Osula has improved since joining Newcastle, and now the striker needs the chance to prove it.
With Newcastle in the middle of a very busy period, Howe cannot solely rely on Alexander Isak to play up front. Meanwhile, playing Anthony Gordon through the middle negates his talent.
With that in mind, Howe needs to give Osula an opportunity. That is what Toon fans are hoping for, and it will be interesting to see if he is brought on during Saturday’s Premier League clash with Leicester City.
