A fairly miserable time of things continued for Newcastle United on Sunday.

While this season hasn’t quite been a disaster for Newcastle, few would doubt it has been hugely underwhelming.

Eddie Howe’s side suffered their second consecutive defeat on Sunday, losing 2-1 at Chelsea and now sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

With Arsenal to come on Sunday after another difficult-looking clash with the Blues in the Carabao Cup on Sunday, things could soon get rather ugly.

Not many of Howe’s big players have shown up yet this season. Alexander Isak may have scored but hardly covered himself in glory at Stamford Bridge, failing to square to Joelinton when through on goal as the Toon pushed for a second equaliser.

As you can imagine, supporters were not happy about his decision and, naturally, neither was Joelinton.

What Joelinton did after Alexander Isak failed to square to him as Newcastle lost to Chelsea

According to The Chronicle, Joelinton fell to his knees “aghast” after Isak instead decided to try and take an extra touch.

The Brazilian was in position to simply tap home from close range but was seemingly fuming at being denied the chance to do so.

Alexander Isak desperately needs to play himself into form at Newcastle

Howe seems to believe a series of slight injury issues are what have denied Isak his very best form this season.

Clearly, it’s difficult to ignore the increasing noise in regards to his future as being a reason for his dip in performance, though perhaps that is mere projection.

The fact is that, despite his goal, Isak looks woefully out of form. His decision there did not speak of a player boasting a huge amount of confidence.

Sadly, Newcastle just have to stick with him until he can play his way out of this funk.
