Newcastle United defender Dan Burn absolutely loved beating Manchester United.
The Magpies were comfortable winners at Old Trafford on Monday night, with Newcastle United better than the Red Devils in every department.
In the eyes of Ruben Amorim, Newcastle are a better team than Man United, and that could not be more true.
Newcastle beat Man United 2-0, but it could have been more. However, that is no cause for concern. Eddie Howe’s side went to Old Trafford and produced the perfect away performance, and travelled back to Tyneside with all three points.
They also picked up another clean sheet, with the Magpies not conceding a single goal in their last four Premier League games.
Dan Burn celebrates Newcastle beating Manchester United

The Newcastle players celebrate every victory, but beating Manchester United always feels a bit more special.
And that was certainly the case for Dan Burn, who could not hide his emotion as he headed back into the dressing room after the Magpies’ 2-0 win.
In a video posted on Newcastle United’s official X account, Burn screamed towards the camera as he led his Toon teammates back into the dressing room.
It seems as if he roars ‘gettin’, before coach Simon Weatherstone let out a much more understandable cheer of ‘come on’.
It was an incredible release of emotion from Burn, who has witnessed his boyhood club fall short against the Red Devils on so many occasions. That is especially true at Old Trafford, as Monday night’s win was just Newcastle’s second victory there in the league since 1972.
What Dan Burn has previously said about Manchester United
After going head-to-head in the 90s and Alan Shearer turning them down, there has always been a bit of needle between Newcastle United and Manchester United.
It feels as if it has ramped up in recent years, with the two clubs more evenly matched. However, that has been to our advantage, as Newcastle have been on the rise while Man United are on the decline.
There is always added motivation to beat a team like Man United, and that is certainly the case for Burn. The 32-year-old has admitted in the past that he is not particularly fond of the Red Devils.
Following a 2-0 win over Man United at St James’ Park in 2023, Burn told the Chronicle: “It’s really special. For a long time, we’ve always disliked Manchester United. We’ve owed them one this season, so it was good to get the win today. As a Newcastle fan we were desperate to get the win. Over the seasons this [fixture] has always been one where we want to beat Manchester United.”
When you take those words into consideration, Burn’s reaction before heading into the dressing room is no surprise.
