Chris Wood finally scored his first Newcastle United goal last night.
The New Zealand international has played every single minute since his £25million arrival from Burnley, but had to wait a long time to find the net.
While he was doing a brilliant job of leading the line, the lack of goals was no doubt worrying him. Eddie Howe had praised his work ethic, but he can now praise his goalscoring ability.

It was a wonderful header from Wood, and the kind of goal you’d expect from the 30-year-old.
Jonjo Shelvey provided a wonderful cross, and the Magpies’ number 20 rose higher than Mohammed Salisu to head us level and grab his first goal.
It’s a huge weight off his shoulders, and the Newcastle players showed their appreciation for Wood after the game.

The huge dressing room roar for Chris Wood
After full time, Wood was drafted in for media duties. He spoke to the TV cameras about his first Newcastle goal and another vital win.
The club then videoed Wood after his interview as he headed back to the dressing room.
As you can see above, a huge roar erupts as he enters the room. Wood’s goal has been a long time coming, and it’s what he deserves after all the hard yards he’s been running.
The cheers from the Toon dressing room show the incredible team spirit Eddie Howe has built. This is a group of players that are playing for each other.

They’re digging in and fighting for the club, and celebrating each other’s victories. This is a team, not a group of individuals.
That’s why Newcastle are distancing themselves from the relegation zone, and it’s why we’re in incredibly safe hands with Eddie Howe.
Wood deserved that goal, and he deserved the roar of appreciation from his Toon teammates.
