Newcastle United fans are making plans to return to Wembley after beating Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The Magpies did an incredibly professional job on Wednesday night, with Newcastle United beating Arsenal 2-0 to advance to the final of the Carabao Cup.

There were plenty of nerves going into the game, but there was nothing to worry about once the game kicked off inside St James’ Park. The Newcastle United fans created an incredible atmosphere, while the players delivered on the pitch.

Kieran Trippier was outstanding after returning to the side, while Eddie Howe was delighted with Sven Botman’s performance.

It was a night in which everything went right for Newcastle United, but it was not just about reaching the Carabao Cup final and returning to Wembley.

It will have been easy to forget, but the Magpies received a major boost in the 87th minute when Callum Wilson replaced Alexander Isak.

While fans were eagerly awaiting the final whistle, it was outstanding to see the 32-year-old make his return from injury. He got a warm welcome from Toon fans, who chanted ‘hey Callum Wilson’ as he entered the pitch.

After a difficult January transfer window, Eddie Howe’s squad is suddenly a bit stronger. The Magpies now have a bit more depth in attack, while there is less pressure on Isak to stay fit. Wilson’s return means that Isak has much-needed competition, which is a massive plus coming out of a special and emotional night at St James’ Park.

Whether Callum Wilson should start for Newcastle United on Saturday

After the highs up the Carabao Cup, Newcastle United now have another cup tie to prepare for.

This time it is the FA Cup, as the Magpies head to St Andrew’s to take on League One side Birmingham City.

It will be a very different game to the clash with Arsenal, and it is extremely likely that Eddie Howe will rotate his side. It will be a chance to give fringe players some minutes, as well as resting some of his top stars.

Given the amount of football he has had to play, it feels likely that Isak will be rested for the game against Birmingham. Howe suddenly has two options to replace him, with Will Osula joined by Wilson.

The game against Birmingham is a great chance for Wilson to start his first game of the season, but it would perhaps make more sense to keep him on the bench.

His fitness levels are unclear, and Newcastle will be eager to err on the side of caution. They want to keep Wilson fit for the rest of the season, so it would perhaps be unwise to immediately thrust him back into the starting XI.

Instead, this feels like a good opportunity for Osula to start again, after he scored in the previous round of the FA Cup against Bromley.
