Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is under no illusions that Newcastle United were the better side on Sunday.
Newcastle beat Man United 4-1 to move up to fourth in the Premier League, as they made it five wins in a row in all competitions and strengthened their Champions League aspirations.
It was a dominant display from the Magpies, who did the double over Man United for the first time since 1931.
In the absence of Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall’s side punished countless mistakes from the Red Devils. Newcastle United were excellent, as they once again reinforced the huge gap that has emerged between themselves and Manchester United over the past few years.
‘Stronger’ Newcastle United punished Manchester United’s mistakes
There were no excuses from Ruben Amorim after the game.
Speaking to Man United’s official website, the Red Devils boss admitted that Newcastle were simply much ‘stronger’ than his side.

“We did a lot of mistakes and they were better than us, stronger than us,” he said.
“Suffering the second goal in the beginning of the second half hurt us a lot and then we did mistakes during the game that helped Newcastle to win the game.
“It’s a team thing [and not about individuals]. We are doing a lot of mistakes in certain games that give confidence to the opponent, give goals, and then it’s hard to cope with everything.
“We had the first chance, we didn’t score, [then] they have their chance, they score. Then they took control of the game. We scored to draw but then second half, we were suffering in the second play of the game, it’s hard for our team and we did a lot of mistakes.”
Newcastle United’s record against the ‘big six’ this season
Once again, Newcastle United have comfortably beaten a ‘big six’ team.
In all competitions, Newcastle have played 14 times against the ‘big six’ this season. They have won nine, drawn two and lost three. Those losses were away to Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Magpies have made a habit of shining against the supposed elite since Eddie Howe became manager, with his team not fearing the big occasion.
In truth, Sunday’s game was only big because of the name of the opponent. While Manchester United are a massive club, they are not the threat they once were.
For the second time this season, Newcastle breezed past Man United. There was no area of the pitch that the Red Devils got the better of Newcastle, which sums up their decline and the Magpies’ rise.
With seven games to go, Newcastle are in a commanding position to return to the Champions League. However, there are still some difficult fixtures on the horizon.
