Predicted Newcastle lineup to face Fulham: Callum Wilson returns

Callum Wilson is set to return to the Newcastle United starting lineup against Fulham.

The Magpies are back in Premier League action after the international break, and face a tricky away trip to Craven Cottage.

Eddie Howe will be desperate for three points, with his side failing to win since the opening day of the season. He will be hoping to have key players fit for the game, having witnessed something of an injury crisis in recent weeks.

With that in mind, this is our predicted Newcastle starting lineup vs Fulham

Botman on the bench vs Fulham

During the week, it was reported by the Athletic that Sven Botman has been ‘frustrated‘ at being left out of the starting XI. The 22-year-old stayed in Newcastle during the international break rather than representing the Netherlands’ Under-21s side, which saw him receive criticism.

And while he will hope his decision leads to a return to the starting lineup, we expect him to remain on the bench.

Howe will likely opt to continue with Fabian Schar and Dan Burn. They will be joined by Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett, who is set to return to Craven Cottage after previously being on loan there.

Bruno fit to start despite injury worry

Bruno Guimaraes returned for Newcastle last time out against Bournemouth, but wasn’t fit to play the full game. Then he suffered an injury scare whilst away with Brazil.

But it sounds like he will be ready to face Fulham, which means he will continue in the ‘six’ position. He will be joined in midfield by Joelinton and Joe Willock.

Howe will be hoping for more creativity from his midfield on Saturday, having seen his side struggle to break down Bournemouth in their previous game.

Callum Wilson is back for Newcastle

The big change for Newcastle comes up front. Alexander Isak is injured, but Callum Wilson is back.

He hasn’t played since the 3-3 draw with Manchester City, and his return couldn’t be better timed.

Wilson will be keen to add to his tally for the season, but will need better support from the likes of Miguel Almiron and Ryan Fraser.

Predicted XI vs Fulham: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Targett; Willock, Bruno, Joelinton; Almiron, Wilson, Fraser.
