Newcastle United and Arsenal both need a win on Sunday, but pundit Paul Merson believes that neither side will get their wish.
He is anticipating a draw between Newcastle and Arsenal, which probably does more for Eddie Howe than it does Mikel Arteta.
Putting another point on the board is a step in the right direction for the Magpies, who are closing in on qualifying for the Champions League. Coming third is also in our hands following Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton on Thursday night.
For Arsenal, nothing but a win will do. They could start the day four points adrift of Manchester City, who are in pole position to win the Premier League title.
Every game is vital for the Gunners, but Merson believes this is the one that could end their title dreams.

Paul Merson thinks it will be Newcastle 1 Arsenal 1
As part of his latest column for Sportskeeda, Merson has predicted the result of Newcastle vs Arsenal on Sunday. He believes it will be a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park.
“This could be the game that finishes Arsenal off in the Premier League title race, as Newcastle United are in incredible form,” he wrote.
“Eddie Howe and co have been unbelievable at home this season and are well-positioned to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
If Arsenal win this, I think they title race could be back on, as Manchester City have a bunch of interesting games coming up.
Both Arsenal and Newcastle have played fantastic football this season and this will be a great contest, but unfortunately, I can’t see Arsenal winning this one. The pressure will be on them and the Magpies are a tough nut to crack at St James’ Park, so I think this game will finish 1-1.”

A surprising prediction
Given his Arsenal allegiance, it is quite a surprise to see Merson predict a draw. He has gone for the same scoreline as his former teammate David Seaman, who also thinks it will be a 1-1 draw.
The pundits do not appear to fancy Arsenal this weekend. Chris Sutton even thinks it will be Newcastle who come out on top.
It is incredible to see so much support for Newcastle, and it is a testament to how well Howe’s side have done this season. We are in brilliant form at the moment, and are a match for anyone at home.
St James’ Park is going to be rocking, and it could be the ground where Arsenal’s title dreams come to an end – just like their Champions League hopes did last year.
