David Seaman has predicted the outcome of Sunday’s game when Arsenal head to St James’ Park to take on in-form Newcastle United.

Arsenal legend David Seaman has made his prediction for Sunday’s clash and it would be the obvious call for him to choose his former club as the victors. Especially given how much they need a win to keep their title dreams alive.

Speaking on his Seaman Says podcast, however, the former England goalkeeper thinks it’s going to be a tricky fixture for the Gunners, saying: “This was always going to be a really tough game. Going to St. James’ Park, especially now, is mega hard. It’s going to be difficult for Arsenal but they have got to end this season on a high. Get back to what we were used to, playing well and getting results. If they go to Newcastle and get a result there they will shut a lot of people up.”

Wor Flags are hoping to rattle Arsenal cages at St James’ Park again

Of the back of Granit Xhaka‘s comments this week when he admitted that Newcastle ‘demolished‘ Arsenal at St James’ Park last season, there’s a feeling that they are out for revenge. However, Newcastle fans see that as a good sign – it means they are rattled and will be more prone to mistakes.

Wor Flags and the Toon Army are preparing to make St James’ Park a theatre of noise once again like they did the last time the Gunners came, as that atmosphere was the key to Newcastle’s domination.

Both teams still have plenty to fight for which adds an extra level of intensity to the fixture which is possibly why Seaman has struggled to separate the two sides with his prediction: “I’m going to go for a 1-1 draw. I think Arsenal fans would be happy with that.”

Newcastle can open up a nice gap between themselves and Man United

Realistically, both sides would be happy with a point each. Manchester United fluffed their lines with their game in hand last night losing 1-0 to Brighton, which means they are now two points behind Newcastle in the table. Newcastle’s superior goal difference means that a draw keeps them out of Man United’s reach for another week.

But speaking from a less pragmatic and much more Newcastle-y point of view, a win would just be superb. Beating Arsenal is always a nice feeling but doing it when they are title contenders just adds more spice to the occasion. It also moves us another big step closer to confirming Champions League football next season.

So here’s hoping Seaman is wrong and Newcastle make them re-live their 2021/22 St James’ Park nightmare.
