Newcastle United XI vs Leeds: Confirmed team news, injury latest and predicted lineup

Newcastle United may welcome back Sandro Tonali for their Premier League clash against Leeds on Saturday but will be without Nick Woltemade for the game.

It is a big game for Newcastle United. There have been plenty of positives to take from their opening two Premier League games but the fact is that they only have one point.

Failing to beat a newly promoted side, even if the clash is away from home, would be a huge disappointment.

Good performances in testing circumstances have been good to see but, at some point, they need to be converted into Premier League points.

Eddie Howe is without some key players for the trip to Elland Road too, so here’s a look at the very latest team news, injury updates and our predicted lineup.

Confirmed Newcastle United team news vs Leeds

Tonali could be fit for Newcastle against Leeds in a surprise turn of events, having been forced off during Monday night’s defeat to Liverpool with a shoulder injury.

That is a huge boost to Howe, who is already without Anthony Gordon through suspension. Alexander Isak, meanwhile, continues in a self-imposed exile as he looks to try and force a move to Liverpool during what remains of the summer transfer window.

On Friday, the Newcastle United manager confirmed: “Tonali is battling to be fit, whether he makes it or not I’m not sure.

“He’s dealing with pain not dislocation, so if he can do that then he can play. Joelinton won’t feature, but he could be back the other side of the international break.”

Woltemade will not make his Newcastle debut at Leeds as he will not be registered in time to feature. The German striker, as a result, will almost certainly play for his new club for the first time when they host Wolves after the international break.

Joelinton is injured but the Brazilian has avoided a serious lay-off.

Gordon’s suspension means William Osula is almost certain to start up front, while Fabian Schar has been passed fit to play after suffering a clash of heads against Liverpool.
