Newcastle United could barely get going as they were well beaten by Aston Villa.

The Magpies will be keen to forget that result in a hurry and pick up the pieces ahead of their return to St James’ Park next week.

Newcastle United’s six-game winning streak was broken by an Aston Villa side that have been brilliant at home all season. Jason Tindall managed his first away game for Newcastle since taking over from manager Eddie Howe, but the performance of his players was nothing like their previous two wins.

Joelinton was scared of Aston Villa. That was according to Pat Nevin, who believed the Brazilian did not want to put in any more tackles in feat of being shown a second yellow card.

Elsewhere, Bruno Guimaraes looked a much more agitated figure. The Newcastle captain was booked, just like his fellow countryman Joelinton and seemed to be throwing himself into tackles until the final whistle.

While Newcastle lick their wounds after a frustrating defeat, supporters have taken to social media to make one big request to the coaching staff.

Newcastle United fans blast Kieran Trippier after Aston Villa defeat

Defender Kieran Trippier came back into Newcastle’s starting XI following Lewis Hall’s season-ending injury and has performed well in every game since the Carabao Cup final. However, Trippier was poor against Aston Villa, with Unai Emery’s players exploiting the right-back for the whole 90 minutes.

Trippier is Newcastle’s designated corner taker. His set-pieces were praised at Wembley when his corner found Dan Burn’s head, but fans are now eager to see those duties removed from him after his performance on Saturday evening.

“Why doesn’t Tonali take our corners? I don’t think Trippier has got it past the first man since the cup final,” said one fan, while another added: “Why do we insist on keeping Trippier on corners when we have Tonali?”

This supporter looked back at former Newcastle player Yohan Cabaye’s set-pieces, saying: “Trippier’s pathetic floating corners off! Giving me Cabaye nightmares!”

“Trippier struggled, every ball went his way, should have either pulled him at HT or put Krafth in at RCB. Need pace at RCB next season for definite and in games where we need to be clinical, another CM who can thread the ball, because Joelinton couldn’t today,” added this frustrated Newcastle fan.

Another fan added: “Howe and Tindall, I beg you stop letting Kieran Trippier take corners.”

Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “That was an embarrassing performance from Trippier that. Think krafth helped is more in 10 minutes than trippier did all game.”

A game to forget for Kieran Trippier

The Magpies will go back to the drawing board after that defeat. They were simply second best to most balls and struggled with Villa’s intensity throughout.

For Trippier, he must forget that defeat in a hurry. It was clear that Villa were exploiting his lack of pace and a statistic after the game reflected that.

On Sky Sports, it was revealed that 54% of Villa’s attacks were up Trippier’s side, a clear sign that Emery had planned to give the 34-year-old problems throughout the game.

Guimaraes thought Trippier was brilliant against Crystal Palace, it was the complete opposite performance on Saturday evening.
