Newcastle United continue to defy the odds amid a mounting injury crisis at the club.
Despite the fact Nick Pope added to the injury woes by going off with what looked like a dislocated shoulder against Manchester United, Newcastle managed to win on Saturday.
Anthony Gordon once again starred for the club, netting the winner against Erik ten Hag’s side. In all honesty, it could well have been more.
Eddie Howe’s team wasted a number of chances in the first-half, with both Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak firing wide.
Then there was Kieran Trippier’s effort. The England international smacked the bar with a fine free-kick but eventually got the assist for Gordon’s goal.
Only days after he was hailed for his defensive output against Paris Saint-Germain, the praise has continued.
Kieran Trippier: Mehrdad Ghodoussi calls Newcastle star the best in the world
Indeed, Trippier took to Instagram to celebrate the victory, captioning a collage of himself in action: “Buzzing with that one. 3 big points under the lights.”
In response, co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi wrote: “Best right back in the world.”

Kieran Trippier: How did Newcastle star play against Manchester United?
It was another fantastic night for the 33-year-old.
As per WhoScored data, the England international played six key passes during the game, more than anyone on the pitch. Trippier also ranked within the top four Newcastle players for tackles (2) and his four clearances also led the way.
It was another fantastic performance from a modern day Newcastle United legend. Even at 33 and having had a relative dip in form before the last international break, Trippier has enough quality and energy to turn things around.
Slowing little sign of slowing down, it’s hard to think of a better use of £12m.
In this kind of form, it’s equally hard to think of many right-backs better than him.
