Another game, another injury for Newcastle United.
Indeed, Newcastle’s rotten run of luck continued on Saturday, the only disappointment on another fantastic night at St James’ Park.
Anthony Gordon starred again as the Magpies beat Manchester United to move up to fifth in the Premier League table.
In all honesty, the scoreline flattered the visitors too. Alexander Isak and Miguel Almiron could both have scored in the first-half, while Kieran Trippier smacked the bar with a truly excellent free-kick.
Still, as is seemingly the case after every game at the moment, Newcastle were dealt another injury concern.
Nick Pope, hailed for his performance against Paris Saint-Germain only days ago, was forced off in the dying embers while attempting to make a late save.
Having gone under the knife before, Eddie Howe addressed the latest when speaking after the game.
Nick Pope injury: What Eddie Howe said about Newcastle star
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day (22:47 on 02/12/2023), Howe said: “It looks bad. It looks like a dislocation. He’s done it before and had it operated on and come back successfully.
“But I don’t know what the future holds for him, I don’t know if he will need an operation or not, but we will get it checked out and fingers crossed he will be back soon.”

Nick Pope: Newcastle will miss key star
Presuming Pope misses at least the game with Everton this coming week, it’s a major blow for Newcastle.
Granted, the £10m star may have had his dodgy moments this season but his performance in Paris was a reminder of just how good he can be.
While Martin Dubravka is a serviceable back-up option, it’s a real worry with a huge Champions League game against AC Milan to come soon too.
So good in the first leg, Pope’s absence makes Newcastle weaker.
