It was another fantastic night for Newcastle United on Saturday.
Only days after they were robbed of what would have been a famous victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Eddie Howe’s side were back on the horse in another big game.
This time, it was Manchester United who proved little match for a rampant Newcastle.
In truth, the eventual 1-0 scoreline flattered the visitors. Anthony Gordon’s goal proved to be the winner but the Magpies could well have been ahead even further had they finished some of their chances in the first-half, with Alexander Isak shooting wide.
There was another a moment in which the deadlock was almost broken, too. Towards the end of the first-half, Kieran Trippier smacked the crossbar – just as he did against Chelsea – with a fine free-kick.
Speaking on commentary, pundit Ally McCoist was full of praise for the effort.

Indeed, the Scotsman believes Trippier’s effort was on a “different level”.
He said on TNT Sports commentary: “That was unbelievable. Just a different level of free kick.
“Trippier is so, so unlucky that it didn’t drop over the line from the bar. The keeper was rooted to the spot, he wasn’t getting there.”

Kieran Trippier: Newcastle star back to his best
Only a few weeks on from arguing with a supporter at Bournemouth, Trippier is looking back to his very best.
He got the assist for Gordon’s goal, underlining his ability going forward after his sterling defensive output was praised during the draw with PSG. Excellent in attack and at the back, £12m looks an absolute bargain for him.
The last two Premier League games have seen him smack the upright. Hopefully soon, we’ll be able to celebrate one of those trademark free-kicks from a modern day legend at the club.
