Mark Lawrenson has given his prediction for Newcastle United’s trip to face Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.
The Magpies are still riding high after their first win of the season, but know there is hard work to be done in order to put together a run of good form.
Lawrenson feels that Eddie Howe’s side were fortunate to get that victory over Burnley, sealed by Callum Wilson’s goal, and preserved by a first clean sheet of the term.
Lawrenson’s prediction
“Like Tottenham, Leicester have had a number of positive Covid-19 tests in their squad. We might find out a bit more about who is affected nearer kick-off,” said Lawro.
“If, for example, Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and Harvey Barnes can play then I would still fancy Leicester. Again, I would go for a different outcome if the Foxes are without several of their best players.
“Newcastle will be on a high after finally getting their first win of the season last week but they rode their luck against Burnley and they still have big problems at the back.
“If Leicester are anywhere near full strength, they will find a way through. Lawro’s prediction: Leicester 2-1 Newcastle.“
Newcastle will certainly be a bit more confident after beating Burnley.
Leicester played in midweek, when they were eliminated from the Europa League by Napoli. Howe has had a full week to prepare his side for the game.
Leicester also only have one clean sheet to their name in the Premier League so far, which means that there are chances to be had.
Newcastle will be hoping to replicate the 4-2 win at Leicester in May, which derailed the Foxes’ Champions League bid, and this is by no means a foregone conclusion.
