Newcastle United only need a point against Leicester City tonight to guarantee Champions League football, but a draw is no good for the Foxes.
Leicester need to win against Newcastle to put survival in their hands. Three points would lift them out of the relegation zone, and put them in control of their own destiny ahead of the final game of the season next weekend.
There is a lot riding on tonight’s game, which is set to be played in front of a raucous St James’ Park crowd. The atmosphere is always great for the final home game of the season, but it will be turned up multiple notches because of what is at stake, the incredible display Wor Flags have got planned and the fact it is a night game.
All of those factors are working against Leicester, who simply have to play for a win. Draws are no longer enough, so they need to attack and go for victory.
However, that is something that former Toon midfielder Lee Clark could play into Newcastle’s hands.

Clark thinks Leicester could play into Newcastle’s hands
Clark has spoke to TalkSPORT ahead of tonight’s game at St James’ Park, and explained why Leicester’s need to win could be good news for Newcastle.
“Leicester need to come and win, so that could help Newcastle by hitting them on the break with the speed Newcastle have in their team,” he said.
“I’ve watched Leicester in the past two games and I’ve got to say they haven’t played particularly well. They’ve looked like a team who is in the bottom three, they concede quite a lot of goals so unfortunately I’m hoping that’s the case tonight.
“I do have friends who are involved at Leicester, but when it’s your club you only want one outcome and that’s for us to get the three points, so I think it will be extremely tough for Leicester this evening.”
Ideal situation for Eddie Howe’s side
As Clark says, Leicester’s need to attack could create a huge amount of space for Newcastle to exploit. It is an ideal situation for the Magpies, who have often struggled to breakdown stubborn defences this season.

But the Foxes can’t afford to be stubborn. They have to go for it. That should mean there is opportunities on the break, which the likes of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson will relish up against a defence that is massively out of form right now.
While Thursday night against Brighton was a nervy affair, this appears to be a perfect storm for Newcastle. The anxiety and apprehension has been replaced by excitement, as the Toon Army prepare to roar their side over the line at Leicester’s expense.
