Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier believes the Magpies gave everything they could during Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

Trippier captained Newcastle at Wembley, but was unable to inspire his side to victory. Eddie Howe’s team were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United, with Casemiro and Marcus Rashford both scoring in the first half.

It wasn’t meant to be for Newcastle on Sunday. Despite all the excitement in the buildup and the amazing atmosphere inside the ground, the Magpies were unable to end their trophy drought.

We were beaten by the better team, with Manchester United fully deserving victory. They took their opportunities and defended resolutely, limiting our chances in front of goal.

But, as Trippier says, Newcastle gave it their all.

Kieran Trippier thinks Newcastle ‘gave it everything’ in the Carabao Cup final

After the game, Trippier took to his official Instagram account to comment on the defeat.

He wrote: “I thought we gave everything today, unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Congrats to Manchester Utd. On a personal note, NUFC fans you was absolutely incredible today, we will come again. Thank you.”

Carabao Cup final just wasn’t to be for Newcastle

Trippier believes Newcastle gave everything they could, and it’s hard to argue with him. We didn’t let ourselves down at Wembley. We were simply beaten by the better team.

Howe’s side would have been hoping to get off to a fast start, but that just didn’t happen. Man United weathered the early storm, and managed to take a 2-0 lead into half time.

It meant they were in control of the game, and were happy to sit off and let Newcastle try to break them down. Sadly, we were unable to.

It is something we have struggled with this season. For all of our brilliant results, we aren’t great at finding a way through stubborn defences.

That is exactly what we hit on Sunday, with Man United defending their box brilliantly. We had so much of the ball, but could barely create anything.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. Newcastle probed and probed, but couldn’t penetrate the Red Devils’ defence.

The 2023 Carabao Cup final just wasn’t to be for Newcastle. Jamie Reuben and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have vowed that the club will be back, and Trippier agrees.

Sunday didn’t go our way, but it is the beginning of an incredibly bright future for Newcastle United.
