Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has sent Toon fans an emotional message on Twitter after the side’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final.

Despite the Magpies’ best efforts, they were unable to keep the Red Devils out.

Casemiro opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a header lofting into the far corner, perhaps in spite of the run of play.

Just six minutes later, Marcus Rashford was pacing through on goal closely followed by Sven Botman – with a shot clearly on his mind.

However, unfortunately for Loris Karius, the Dutchman’s tackle changed the trajectory of the striker’s shot.

This lofted the ball into the air, while the goalkeeper was already heading to ground to block Rashford’s initial effort.

With the score-line 2-0 at half-time, Eddie Howe’s side always had a long way to go to bring things back.

Reuben’s message to Newcastle fans

Despite the defeat, the Magpies within Wembley were absolutely fantastic throughout the entire game.

Sharing their support for the team at full-time, Reuben captured a video of the Toon fans waving their flags in unison.

Taking to Twitter, the Newcastle co-owner shared the video, followed by the caption: “This is why we are the best club in the world – thank you. Don’t doubt we will be back – stronger and better.”

This was extremely well received by supporters, who shared their thanks with the co-owner – who has helped rebuild the club from inside out.

Newcastle still have a huge season at play, with a place in the top-four up for grabs.

Therefore, the squad will need to refocus quickly as they prepare for Premier League action.
