Despite a week of change at St James’ Park, it was same old Newcastle United on Sunday against Spurs.
It was an electric start from the Magpies, who used the atmosphere to their advantage to score within the first two minutes.
It felt like everything was suddenly going to be okay. The crowd were rejuvenated by the takeover, while the players were finding a level of performance that’s been missing all season.
Then normality resumed. The Newcastle team of the Mike Ashley regime returned, and Tottenham coasted to victory.

Even a late Eric Dier own goal couldn’t inspire Steve Bruce’s side, who looked unaware that they were suddenly within touching distance of an undeserved point.
It was a shocking performance that will have opened a lot of eyes for the new owners at St James’ Park.
The consortium were in attendance, with Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben joined by PIF’s Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
Jamie Reuben reacts
After the game, Reuben reacted on Twitter, thanking fans and paying tribute to the supporter who was unwell during the first half. Thankfully, it has been reported that they are stable and responsive in hospital.
The atmosphere in and around the stadium before kick off was electric. The buzz was back.
Normally the walk to St James’ Park is full of dread and expected disappointment, but on Sunday there was hope and belief once again. There were also multiple Saudi flags and tea towels…not great.
The return of Wor Flags in the Gallowgate was certainly a sight to behold, helping create a wonderful noise inside the ground well before the game actually kicked off.

While the fans did their part, the players and the manager did not.
Reuben wrote on Twitter: “We will build and come back stronger.”
Put it this way, it can’t get much worse! The new owners have a hell of a job on their hands.
