Newcastle United are on a fine run of form.
Eddie Howe’s side may not have hugely impressed across a whole 90 minutes in the Premier League just yet but, somehow or another, Newcastle are actually unbeaten.
Indeed, they came from behind to beat Wolves at Molineux on Sunday thanks to a deflected strike from Fabian Schar and a ludicrously lovely goal from Harvey Barnes.
The Newcastle United manager will no doubt have been concerned about how easily the hosts cut through his team at times but the fact the Magpies can still improve all while they’re picking up results is very promising indeed.
Howe was able to flex his muscles somewhat. Where last season an injury crisis constantly decimated his options, Newcastle had the luxury of bringing the likes of Barnes, Sandro Tonali and Joe Willock off the bench at half-time.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, however, highlighted Kieran Trippier’s cameo as a major reason for the comeback victory.
Jamie Redknapp now names the Newcastle United player who “relaxes everybody”
Speaking to Sky Sports at 6.48pm BST on 15/09/2024, the former England midfielder was full of praise for the defender, who had replaced Tino Livramento in the second-half.

“The player that has come onto the pitch and made the most difference, for me, in terms of giving them composure and quality has been Kieran Trippier,” he said.
“He came on against Bournemouth, they came in the game. He came on today, I think, on 65 minutes. He relaxes everybody. He knows the game, set-pieces, passing the ball at the right time. I think he makes a real difference, just adds a bit of experience, composure to the team.”
Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe are so right about Kieran Trippier
Sporting director Paul Mitchell and Howe are said to have got off on the wrong foot as the club enter a new era.
Mitchell is thought to have surprised staff at St James’ Park with the tone of his opening message to them, with some sources suggesting his assertion that things needed to improve did not go down well.
However, the two are said to be in total agreement that keeping Trippier at the club despite so many links away is a wise decision.
Having also been hailed for his outing off the bench at Bournemouth by Howe, it seems Trippier is becoming something of a super sub.
