Newcastle United barely had to get out of second gear as they beat Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.

The Magpies continued their quest for Champions League football thanks to a first-half brace from Jacob Murphy and a strike from Harvey Barnes against his former club to give them a huge boost to their goal difference.

Newcastle United’s win against Leicester City moves them up to fifth place in the Premier League table, and just four goals away from Chelsea in fourth.

While Barnes will be pleased to score his sixth goal of the season, he still showed respect to the Foxes by giving a muted celebration.

Tino Livramento was sensational for Newcastle on Monday night, bagging the assist for Murphy’s first goal and looking a constant threat as a makeshift left-back in Lewis Hall’s absence.

Fabian Schar will be kicking himself that an effort from inside his own half crashed off the crossbar before Murphy finished for his second, Sandro Tonali scored a wondergoal against Brentford a few days prior but Schar’s effort would have trumped that if it found the back of the net.

Things are looking grim for Leicester, who find themselves 15 points adrift from Wolves in 17th place. Newcastle fans rubbed salt in the wounds with a spectacular chant which fans will love.

Newcastle United fans mock Sunderland during Leicester win

The Magpies were backed by thousands of passionate fans who were in fine voice throughout the night. Newcastle fans know that the players feed off the atmosphere, and it was certainly the case for Monday’s win.

It looks likely that Leicester will be relegated back to the Championship after just one season in the top-flight, where they could be joining Sunderland, Newcastle’s arch rivals.

The Black Cats are currently fourth in the Championship and are highly likely to be a part of the play-offs at the end of the season, but there is still a chance they could stay down there for another season.

After the first two goals, Newcastle could be heard chanting “Say hello to Sunderland,” a cheeky dig at their rivals in the league below.

The passionate Geordies also chanted about a particular game against Sunderland, which saw former Newcastle player Albert Luque wrap up the contest.

Newcastle United fans call for £15m player to appear

William Osula has not seen much game time in the Premier League this season, but he has still become a fan favourite thanks to his impressive performances in the FA Cup.

The £15m man was on the bench again for the Magpies and finally got the call from Eddie Howe to come on, much to the delight of the fans.

Newcastle fans called for Osula to play ahead of Callum Wilson on social media, but they may have to wait until next season for that to happen.

Fans chanted for Osula throughout the game with a fantastic song to the tune of The Champs hit ‘Tequila’.

Fans will be travelling back to Tyneside safe in the knowledge that their team area still well in the race for the Champions League.
