Newcastle United host Bradford in the Carabao Cup third-round on Wednesday night.

Newcastle United vs Bradford City marks the start of their defence of the trophy they won back in March by beating Liverpool in the 2024-25 final.

While Newcastle United’s season is yet to truly come alive, Howe will be hoping to kickstart their campaign with progress in a cup competition.

The hosts are no doubt favourites here but do have reason to fear The Bantams.

They are top of the League One table after winning six of their opening nine games and losing just one.

Newcastle will be expected to win but it’s a big game in their season, so here’s everything you need to know about where to watch the game.

Eddie Howe delivers verdict on Bradford City

Speaking on Tuesday, the Newcastle United manager warned his side about their Carabao Cup opponents.

Graham Alexander’s side beat Championship teams in Blackburn and Stoke to reach this point, so are certainly not to be overlooked.

Howe knows of the danger they possess, and his comments certainly suggest he’s not about to treat this game lightly.

“We’re up against tough opponents,” said Howe. “They’re doing very well in their league, are on a strong winning run and have beaten two Championship teams to get to this point.”

The Toon boss is also proud to be entering the competition as holders and is looking for another deep run in the tournament, despite the fact his team are having to balance their Premier League and Champions League campaigns during a busy period of the season.

“As we found last year, the early rounds are very difficult,” he said.

“We played Wimbledon, a 1-0 win, and it was a tough game. It was the same two years ago when we squeezed through against Tranmere and we fully respect every opponent.

“You just try to find a way through and we’ll be trying to do that.”

If Newcastle United progress, they will discover their fourth-round opponents during Wednesday night’s draw. That is expected to start at 10pm BST.
