Newcastle United needed a couple of moments of magic to beat Wolves on Sunday.

The Magpies came from behind to win 2-1 at Molineux, with Fabian Schar and Harvey Barnes’ long-range strikes completing a remarkable comeback.

Once again, Newcastle United were not at their best. They continued their stuttering start to the season, yet are third in the Premier League.

It has been all about the moments for Newcastle United so far, and that was certainly the case against Wolves.

The decisive moment was Barnes’ magnificent winner, as he curled a beautiful effort from distance to put the Magpies in front. It was a trademark strike from the 26-year-old, and Barnes should surely be a starter for Newcastle now after his latest contribution.

Fabian Schar scores a screamer as Newcastle beat Wolves

But Barnes’ goal was all the more valuable after Fabian Schar‘s equaliser. He drew Newcastle level out of nowhere with a trademark goal of his own.

The 32-year-old was back in the team after suspension, and certainly made up for lost time.

With Newcastle struggling to find an equaliser, Fabian Schar let rip from distance. It was a brilliant strike, even if it was aided by a deflection off of Craig Dawson. It hit the Wolves defender on the head, and looped beyond the helpless Sam Johnstone.

Eddie Howe delighted with ‘magical’ Fabian Schar

Even with the deflection, it was an outstanding goal from Schar, and his first of the season.

But it certainly was not his first wonder-goal in Toon colours, with Eddie Howe telling the official Newcastle United app that Schar is a player that is capable of ‘magical things’.

“It’s another Fabian… one for the showreel for him,” he said.

“He’s a centre-half that can do magical things. I think it took a little deflection but it was a great strike.”

Fabian Schar scored one of Newcastle’s most iconic goals

Schar has to be one of the most technically gifted centre-backs around.

Some of the goals he has scored during his Newcastle career are incredible. There was that rocket against Burnley, and he followed it up with a similar strike against Nottingham Forest.

But his best goal has to be the one against Paris Saint-Germain. The £3million defender wrapped up a 4-1 victory in the Champions League over PSG, curling a gorgeous shot beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma to cap off the perfect night inside St James’ Park.

While his goal against Wolves was not as good or as iconic, it was certainly important. It drew Newcastle level, and laid the foundation for Barnes to go and get the winner.

It was a massive win for Newcastle, and it is great to have Schar back in the side after his suspension.
