Eddie Howe confirms Alexander Isak injury latest for Newcastle United
The Sweden international made way for Callum Wilson shortly after Bryan Mbeumo had cancelled out his opener from the penalty spot.
While Isak did not look to be in too much discomfort when coming off, the Newcastle United manager has explained exactly why he took the decision to remove him.
According to Howe, Isak had a groin issue which impacted his movement. It remains to be seen just how severe the problem is of course, with Newcastle next in action away at Leicester on Monday night.
Alexander Isak injury is Newcastle’s biggest concern left this season
Hopefully, Isak won’t be missing for any great deal of time. Even if he is forced out of the Leicester game, Wilson will fancy his chances against the struggling Foxes.
However, the idea of being without the Sweden star for anything longer than that would be an issue. The race for the top four or five is heating up and few players can match just how good Isak is.
Such has been the level of his form this season, Isak has been described as “world class”. Newcastle’s chances of reaching the Champions League largely rest on his fitness.
