For Newcastle United fans, that was a perfect night. However, it was not for Eddie Howe.

While his side may have beaten Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in the Champions League, Howe was not completely satisfied with his side’s performance.

That seems outlandish given how good Newcastle were on Wednesday night, but it just sums up what a perfectionist the manager is.

His team are top of the ‘group of death’ after collecting four points from their opening two games, while they smashed PSG on the competition’s return to St James’ Park.

It was a remarkable night on Tyneside, filled with special performances. Seeing Sean Longstaff and Dan Burn score was magical, while Jamaal Lascelles was outstanding in defence.

However, there was one aspect of Newcastle’s performance that Howe did not like.

Eddie Howe ‘frustrated’ despite Newcastle’s 4-1 win against PSG

After the 4-1 win over PSG, Howe spoke to NUFC TV. He admitted that it was not a ‘perfect’ performance from Newcastle.

“I didn’t think it was perfect,” he said.

“I thought we could do better on the ball tonight. I was a little bit frustrated, especially in the second half, that we didn’t keep the ball more.”

More to come from Newcastle

Eddie Howe is not one to rest on his laurels. He knows Newcastle could have been better, despite beating the Ligue 1 champions 4-1.

That is a crazy statement, but it just sums up why Howe is the perfect man for the job. He wants Newcastle to keep getting better and better.

In truth, he is right. We were poor in possession at times during the second half, and it came in moments when PSG were desperately trying to get back into the game.

But there were a lot of tired legs and minds, which is probably why some mistakes were made.

Howe will try to eradicate those mistakes, as he continues to strive for that ‘perfect’ Newcastle United performance. But for most Toon fans, last night is about as good as it gets!
