Callum Wilson is back amongst the goals for Newcastle United.
The Newcastle striker may not be the most reliable on the fitness front but, when available, there is little doubt Wilson scores goals.
In fact, his strike in Newcastle’s dramatic 3-2 win over Birmingham in the FA Cup on Saturday made it 49 goals for the club in just 114 games since joining from Bournemouth in 2020.
Indeed, it will be fascinating to see what kind of role Wilson plays in Eddie Howe’s squad between now and the end of the season.
If he can stay fit, there would appear to be little reason as to why he cannot help ease the burden on current star striker, Alexander Isak.
Howe was impressed with Wilson for his impact against Birmingham, while the striker revealed his thinking about the season-long (if not longer) injury frustrations he has endured.

Callum Wilson provides injury update after Newcastle United return
Wilson was starting his first competitive game for Newcastle since May and appears to have come through unscathed.
It may have been slightly concerning to have seen the striker taken off for Jacob Murphy only ten minutes into the first-half but Wilson sounded confident he remained in a good place when speaking after the game.
Wilson added that he wanted to wait until he was fully confident in his body, rather than rush his comeback only to break down again.
He told BBC Sport: “I’ve worked hard to get into the position now to be able to start games again.
“I didn’t want to come back too soon so that I was coming off the bench trying to get my fitness up.
“So I’m trying to just basically play as many games as I can now from now to the end of the season. Help the team, get some goals and things like that. Yeah it’s been frustrating to say the least, but hopefully on the other side of it now and can just contribute from here out.”
Bruno Guimaraes was pleased to have seen Wilson return to the starting lineup and it’s perhaps fair to suggest many supporters will have been too.
Callum Wilson proving Newcastle United insiders right
Prior to his return from injury – which actually came in a brief cameo against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday – there were positive noises about the striker.
Newcastle sources believe Wilson is ready to return with a vengeance and prove his worth between now and the end of the season.
While there is still a lot to prove on that front, the England international is off to a great start.
The more games he plays, the more goals he will score. It really is that simple.
