Callum Wilson made his first competitive Newcastle United start since May on Saturday.
Wilson started for Newcastle in their enthralling FA Cup clash with Birmingham, where Eddie Howe’s side ultimately booked their spot in the fifth round draw.
Indeed, Newcastle beat Birmingham 3-2 at St Andrew’s but were certainly made to work for it.
The Blues took the lead in the opening exchanges before Joe Willock levelled with a controversial goal, with there some debate as to whether or not his effort actually crossed the line.
Wilson quickly added a second before Birmingham equalised through a stunning strike from Tomoki Iwata. The hosts had their chances but Willock eventually settled the contest late on by bagging his brace.
It’s great to see Wilson back. No matter the frustrations about his fitness record, few can doubt what a good player he’s been for Newcastle over the years.
Naturally, the striker took to Instagram after the game in celebration.

Bruno Guimaraes reacts as Callum Wilson scores first Newcastle United goal in months
Wilson must have been delighted to get back amongst the goals. This season would have been so frustrating for him, both in terms of his injuries and the fact he has to watch Alexander Isak star in what used to be his role for Newcastle.
After the game, he posted an image captioned: “Felt good to be back out there with my team.
“Amazing support from you fans as usual! Another cup win and a long awaited goal.”
In response, Bruno Guimaraes wrote: “Nice to have you back bro.”
Eddie Howe pleased as Callum Wilson returns to scoring goals for Newcastle United
The Newcastle United manager has constantly talked up Wilson even despite his constant injuries.
That proved no different on Saturday, as Howe was pleased with both Wilson and Willock for their displays against the League One outfit.
Certainly, there’s still a lot more to prove but Wilson is at least fit again and back amongst the goals.
That can only be a good thing for Newcastle.
