Bruno Guimaraes was a spectator for the majority of Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.
The 26-year-old started on the bench at St James’ Park, with Eddie Howe opting to rest Bruno Guimaraes.
Sandro Tonali thrived in Bruno’s position, while the Brazilian was asked to operate in a different role when he came on in the 63rd minute. He replaced Joe Willock, and played as the left-sided centre-midfielder.
Bruno was asked to combine with Joelinton and Lewis Hall down the left, two players who were absolutely outstanding against Chelsea on Wednesday night.
Joelinton was so impactful on the left wing, while Hall continued his impressive run of form against his former club.
Lewis Hall was outstanding in Newcastle win
This was Hall’s second appearance against Chelsea since they sold him to Newcastle for £28million.
Howe praised Hall for his performance against Chelsea on Sunday, but the 20-year-old was even better in the Carabao Cup.
Hall played with such confidence on Wednesday night, defending diligently whilst also getting involved in attack. It was an all-action performance from a player who is just getting better and better.
And it was even more special to see him thrive against the club that let him go.
Lewis Hall reacts to beating Chelsea
Following Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Chelsea, Hall took to his official Instagram account to deliver a message to supporters.
Alongside a selection of pictures from the game, Hall wrote: “Enjoyed that one.”
The post initially included a winking emoji, which appeared to be Hall hinting towards getting one over on his former club Chelsea. That emoji has now been replaced with a smiley face.
In response to Hall’s message, Bruno Guimaraes commented: “What a player.”
Newcastle have confidence in Hall
This time last year, Hall was not trusted. Howe barely used the left-back, raising questions over the club’s decision to bring him to St James’ Park.
But Hall has worked on his game and became a better player, so much so that he has now established himself as a Newcastle United regular. He has started eight out of 12 games this season, and is beginning to make a real impression.
That is summed up by the praise that Hall is getting from Newcastle United captain Bruno. He is a Brazil international, but is no stranger to the talent that Hall possesses.
Even when they are on the pitch together, you can see that Bruno trusts Hall. He wants to give him the ball. He is willing to trust him with possession.
Newcastle have confidence in Hall, and Hall now has confidence in himself.
