Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has admitted that he is proud of his team after the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United – but he is ‘not happy’.
Bruno returned to the Newcastle starting XI for the game at Wembley, but was forced off in the second half. He appeared to pick up an ankle injury, and limped off in the 79th minute to be replaced by Joe Willock.
It was a shame to see Bruno forced off against Manchester United, as he was having an excellent game. He was pulling the strings in the middle of the park, as the Magpies went toe-to-toe with the Red Devils.
But he was unable to see out the game, and was reduced to tears at full time and Newcastle’s defeat was confirmed. Man United ran out 2-0 winners, and were deserving of the victory.
It was a heartbreaking defeat for the emotional Bruno, who recently endured similar disappointment at the World Cup with Brazil when they lost in the quarter finals to Croatia.
He helped Newcastle get all the way to the final of the Carabao Cup, but could not end the club’s trophy drought. The wait for silverware goes on.
Bruno Guimaraes’ message to Newcastle fans after Carabao Cup defeat
After the game, Bruno took to his official Instagram account to deliver a message to the Toon supporters.
He wrote: “That’s football. Not always giving our best is enough. Let’s keep walking our path in pursuit of Newcastle’s success. With delivery, dedication and love for the project and fans we represent. Healing our wounds and moving forward in search of the top. For NUFC. For the fans. I’m proud, but not happy. Because I’ll never accept the defeat.”
Bruno’s time will come at Newcastle
Bruno’s message is the words of a winner. He is proud of the team’s efforts, but is not happy that they were unable to get the job done at Wembley.
However, his time will come. He believes in the project at St James’ Park, which is why he joined the club last year.
Newcastle’s owners believe that the Wembley defeat to Manchester United is just the beginning, and that we will be back in a final very soon.
With players like Bruno in the team, that is highly possible. The 25-year-old is a world class midfielder, and we are lucky to have him.
He was very emotional at full time, but is right to be proud of what the team have achieved. Bruno is already a hero on Tyneside, and hopefully he is crying tears of joy next time we get to Wembley.
