Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes played as Brazil beat Senegal in an international friendly at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.
Guimaraes, despite some big moments, is struggling for form at Newcastle United this season.
The Brazilian international is hardly alone in that and certainly has enough credit in the bank before an inquest truly starts.
Guimaraes isn’t playing well for Newcastle right now but did not appear to let that bother him on Saturday afternoon in north London.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil beat Senegal 2-0 as they look to build towards making a strong showing at next summer’s World Cup.
Here’s a look at how some of the Brazilian media rated his performance.

Brazilian media say Bruno Guimaraes is getting better under Carlo Ancelotti
Guimaraes is already a fine midfielder playing under a brilliant manager in Eddie Howe at club level.
However, working under a manager as storied as Ancelotti on the international level can only be a positive thing.
Ancelotti is one of the best managers in modern football history and Globo Esporte certainly believe Guimaraes is growing in stature for Brazil under his watch.
Globo Esporte wrote: “Another player who has gained prominence under Ancelotti’s management. It’s impressive how he’s increasingly establishing himself as an “all-around midfielder.”
“He’s important in marking, ball distribution, and offensive build-up. He moves from one area of the field to another with ease, executing what’s expected of a modern midfielder. He makes many runs into the box to support the attacking quartet and has perfect positioning to tackle directly or intercept passes.”

Bruno Guimaraes getting the love of the Brazilian media
It wasn’t just Globo Esporte who were pleased with Guimaraes against Senegal.
Indeed, TNT Sports Brazil posted a graphic reading: “We’re doing fantastic in midfield! What a performance from Bruno Guimaraes!”
Ancelotti thinks Guimaraes is a “complete player” and he certainly looks as if he’s going to be a starter at the World Cup next summer.
Much will depend on his Newcastle form of course but, other than a few blips this season, that has hardly ever been in question.
Newcastle players are, so far at least, enjoying a positive international break.
Nick Woltemade bagged a brace for Germany in a game where Malick Thiaw returned to the set-up for the first time in two years.
Lewis Hall starred for the England U21s in their win over the Republic of Ireland, while Lewis Miley also played in that game.
Hopefully, a strong showing over the international break helps Howe’s squad return to Tyneside in a much better place ahead of the Premier League clash at home against Manchester City next weekend.
