We’re still trying to process Newcastle United’s thrilling win over West Ham.

Despite an afternoon of great difficulty at St James’ Park amid a succession of injuries and a red card for Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes was the hero for Newcastle.

The winger brought the hosts back on level terms at 3-3 before scoring a famous late winner to down the Hammers and he was duly serenaded by supporters after the game.

Eddie Howe, as you might imagine, was also delighted with Barnes.

Still, it wasn’t solely a one-man effort.

Indeed, Gordon played a hand in three of the four goals, while it was Alexander Isak who scored two penalties.

They weren’t the only players to have helped change the game, however.

The introductions of Lewis Hall and Elliot Anderson just before the hour mark gave Howe’s side an added thrust on what could be a big day for the pair.

Hall has already described the afternoon as “special” as he bids for more regular game time amid a belief behind the scenes he’s not defensively ready enough to play in the Premier League week in, week out.

Anderson, meanwhile, is getting over injury problems as he looks to deliver on his obvious hype.

Bruno Guimaraes was as important as ever too and the Brazilian was delighted for Hall in particular.

Hall took to Instagram after the game to caption a collage of himself in action: “Wow, what a game! Great character from this boys this afternoon.”

In response, Guimaraes wrote: “Big player.”

Lewis Hall provided a glimpse into the future for Newcastle

Tougher tests will come this season but Hall did at least offer a glimpse into the future for Newcastle ahead of his expected £28m move to the club this summer.

Playing just over half an hour in a crazy game at home is very different to being a regular starter in the Premier League, of course.

Still, it was fantastic to see him play a role in such an amazing comeback after a difficult season thus far.
