What Alexander Isak said about PIF immediately after he signed Newcastle United contract in 2022

Alexander Isak made his feelings very clear when signing for Newcastle United in 2022.

Newcastle paid £63million to sign Isak from Real Sociedad almost three years ago now and it’d be fair to say that has proven to be a bargain.

Isak has scored 62 goals in 109 games for Newcastle United since his move, helping them qualify for the Champions League on two separate occasions.

In March, he scored the goal that ended Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a major domestic honour in the Carabao Cup final.

Isak is happy at Newcastle but continues to be linked with a move away. Quite why he’d want to leave is up for debate, except for perhaps the huge wages on offer elsewhere. 

Still, Newcastle want to improve Isak’s contract, which will hopefully resolve that problem. 

Given all the speculation on his future, it’s worth looking at what Isak said about Newcastle when he first signed for the club.

What Alexander Isak said immediately after signing for Newcastle United

Isak officially signed his six-year contract at Newcastle on Friday 26 August, 2022.

The forward then released a statement that was posted on the Newcastle United official website.

Isak talked of his belief in the project under PIF at Newcastle, as well as how the fans helped convince him to join.

“I’m delighted to have it done. It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with,” he said.

“It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. They were a big part of why I came here – and also the club’s project, which is one that I really believe in.

“You always want to go into a team and know how they play. I think Newcastle play very attractive football and I want to be a part of that.”

PIF have given Alexander Isak everything that he wants

The Newcastle United owners have certainly given Isak the platform to shine.

They’ve qualified for the Champions League in two out of his three seasons here thus far, and lifted a major honour in the process.

Isak isn’t likely to push for a move away from Newcastle and is in line for a new contract at the club. 

With that in mind, and given Newcastle are under no immediate pressure to sell this summer at least, there’s very little reason to suggest he will leave over the coming weeks and months.
