Anthony Gordon and three beloved legends… How much Newcastle United have spent in every January transfer window

The January transfer window is open for business and Newcastle United have used the period to their advantage over the years.

Newcastle United ended an inconsistent year on fire with five dominant wins on the spin, with an aggregate score of 16-1.

Eddie Howe has seemingly settled on his strongest starting XI and it’s paying dividends, with the likes of Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes in scintillating form.

The January transfer window will give Newcastle the chance to bolster the manager’s arsenal, but an already-bulging squad and PSR restrictions may limit the business they can conduct.

However, the likes of Johan Bakayoko, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Fikayo Tomori have all been linked with moves as a new winger, striker and centre-back is on the wish list for 2025.

Historically, Newcastle have been active in the January market and some of the club’s most beloved legends – such as Nobby Solano, Hatem Ben Arfa and Peter Lovenkrands – all arrived during the winter.

In recent times, Gordon, Guimaraes and Dan Burn were signed in January, too, so it’s a window Newcastle have found joy in previously.

The transfer window system, as it’s now known, was first implemented in the 2002/03 and here is how much the Magpies have spent in every January in the 22 years since the first one.
