Newcastle United target Mohammed Kudus is shining at the World Cup for Ghana, and has been described as the player of the tournament so far.
That is according to Kevin-Prince Boateng, who made 15 appearances for the Black Stars between 2010 and 2014.
The former Tottenham and Portsmouth midfielder has been full of praise for Kudus, and believes he is setting himself up for a move to a major club.
Kudus currently plays his football in the Netherlands for Ajax, but his form at the World Cup is attracting a lot of attention. According to 90min, Newcastle are one of the clubs who have asked about signing him following his sensational performances for Ghana.
The 22-year-old scored twice in his side’s 3-2 win over South Korea on Monday, setting up a group decider with Uruguay on Friday. That is set to be an amazing game of football given the history between the two sides after what happened at the 2010 World Cup.
Ghana will be out for revenge, and will once again look to Kudus for inspiration. And Boateng believes he is the man of the moment.
Boateng believes Kudus is the best player at the World Cup right now
The 35-year-old has done a column for German outlet Sport1, and took time to give kudos to Kudus.
“Mohammed Kudus is the player of the tournament for me so far,” he wrote.
“He’s out of this world. It’s amazing what he can do with the ball. It’s only a matter of time before he moves from Ajax Amsterdam to a world club.”
Hopefully Newcastle make a move
A day before Newcastle were linked with Kudus, we speculated that Dan Ashworth should make a move. He has been linked with the Magpies twice before, but a move failed to materialise.
Now the whole world knows what Kudus is capable of, and signing him will be even trickier. That will frustrate Newcastle, but it is even more frustrating for Everton, who came agonizingly close to signing him earlier this year.
But the midfielder’s level of performance for Ghana shows that he can play at a higher level than Everton. He is excelling at the World Cup, just like he has been doing in the Champions League.
Ajax were in Liverpool’s group earlier this year, where Kudus scored four goals and provided two assists in six games. They are outstanding numbers.
Combine that with his form for Ghana and it’s no wonder Newcastle are asking questions. The Magpies are looking for a creative midfielder, with James Maddison linked.
However, Kudus could be a much cheaper and viable alternative. 90min believe that he is now valued at £30million, and that could make him a good long term investment if Newcastle decide to make a move.
