Will travel back’: Newcastle player is about to leave USA camp soon – Sky journalist

While Newcastle United recently gained a player during their USA training camp in Harvey Barnes, they could be about to lose someone else.

That is because Karl Darlow is closing in on a move away from St James’ Park. There has been a lot of talk about him leaving the club as of late, and it now looks like a departure is on the horizon.

Bournemouth were leading the race to sign the 32-year-old, but it now looks like he is going to drop down to the Championship and sign for Leeds United.

Now Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has provided an update on the situation, and explained why Darlow is now on course to join Leeds rather than Bournemouth.

Keith Downie’s update on Karl Darlow to Leeds United

According to Downie, Leeds have offered more money for Darlow than Bournemouth. On top of that, the Cherries have landed an alternative goalkeeper.

They are signing Andrei Radu from Inter Milan, clearing the way for Daniel Farke to add Darlow to his Leeds squad.

Downie states that an agreement is now close, and that the stopper will leave the USA and travel back to the United Kingdom for a medical once a deal is in place.

He wrote: “Karl Darlow close to agreeing a deal to join Leeds United. The Newcastle ‘keeper had looked set for Bournemouth, but Leeds offering bigger fee & Cherries have signed Radu from Inter. Darlow will travel back to UK for a medical soon — once agreement in place.”

Better move for the Newcastle goalkeeper

While joining a Championship club instead of a Premier League side sounds like a step in the wrong direction, a move to Leeds is probably much better for Darlow.

It means there is less pressure to move his family away from the North East, having joined Newcastle back in 2014 – although he did spend his first year back on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Joining Leeds will at least give Darlow the option to commute rather than move his entire life down to the south coast.

It is also a better move for Newcastle United, with Leeds offering to pay the Magpies more money than Bournemouth. With financial fair play proving to be problematic, every little helps.

Newcastle needed to move at least one goalkeeper out of the club this summer, and it looks like that is about to happen with Darlow heading to Leeds.

Once a deal is agreed he will leave Newcastle’s camp in America. But regardless, it looks incredibly unlikely that he will be involved in Wednesday night’s friendly against Chelsea.
