According to a report Karl Darlow could be heading to pastures new but remaining in the Premier League as Bournemouth make their move for the Newcastle United goalkeeper.

After three clubs moved on from their interest with Karl Darlow, two remain interested in the 32-year-old stopper.

According to The Telegraph, Bournemouth lead Leeds United in the race for the man Hull City boss Liam Rosenior called ‘outstanding‘ after his loan spell last season. The report claims Bournemouth have made an initial move and expect Darlow to compete with Neto for the number 1 jersey next season.

Darlow will want guarantees of first-team football

The obvious issue I see with that one is that Karl Darlow is 32 now, prime years for a goalkeeper and he will be looking for a guaranteed starting place, or at least a bigger promise of a guaranteed starting place, that’s where Leeds will feel they have the edge.

The issue Leeds will have his taking a Premier League player into the Championship, both in terms of being able to sell the club to him to justify the drop in league statue, and in terms of offering a competitive salary in the Championship.

Alan Nixon has written on his Patreon that he believes Newcastle will be willing to help fund Darlow’s move away from the club by helping the £5million rated keeper by paying him a severance package which will see the bulk of his remaining contract paid up should he choose to move.

Leeds fans will see the Newcastle ‘keeper an an upgrade on Meslier

Nixon has been keeping tabs on the Darlow rumours this summer so he is well placed to know what is happening so there could be some truth in the compensation claims.

Many Leeds-based outlets today have covered the fact that the club are interested in Darlow but also mentioned his clanger against Rangers last night, although he did make up for it with a superb save at the end of the game. Besides, surely every Leeds fan can see he’s an upgrade on Illan Meslier.

Darlow has jetted out to the United States with the Newcastle squad but that doesn’t mean that Leeds and Bournemouth will have to wait until he is back to do business and if a deal can be reached we could see him move any day now.
