Newcastle United’s search for a striker could be impacted by Everton’s looming takeover.
Three years after Newcastle United were bought out by PIF, Everton are on the brink of their own change of ownership.
The Toffees are set to be bought out by American billionaire Dan Friedkin, with iNews reporting that the deal will hopefully go through by December. That will be a relief for the Everton faithful ahead of the January transfer window.
It could allow them to spend big money at the start of 2025, while it may also influence some of their current stars to remain at Goodison Park.
Newcastle have a long-term interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin
And that is why Toon officials will be extra keen, as Newcastle continue to be linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Calvert-Lewin almost signed for Newcastle during the summer, but that deal collapsed in June. Rumours of interest from the Magpies has continued, largely because of the 27-year-old’s contract situation.
He is currently in the final year of his deal, and Geordie Boot Boys were told over the summer that Calvert-Lewin was unlikely to sign a new contract with Everton.

The latest on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract at Everton
However, the change of ownership might result in a change of heart.
That is according to TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about what Everton are planning to do with Calvert-Lewin amid interest from Newcastle.
“Everton’s situation is changing now with the change of ownership,” he said.
“They’re building towards this new stadium and they do not want to lose their best players – that includes Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He’s a very good player and has shown that this season. He would be very hard to replace.
“My understanding is that Everton are pushing hard to keep him now. The project they can offer him is different now, and that could be tempting for him. They’re trying to get it done before January.
“Newcastle will be very interested in his contract situation.”
Newcastle are looking to sign a striker
It has recently been reported that Newcastle are in the market to sign another striker.
Given his contract situation and the Magpies’ previous interest, you have to assume that Newcastle will be paying close attention to what happens with Calvert-Lewin over the next couple of months.
If he opts against committing his future to Everton, he could be a cost effective solution to Newcastle’s striker conundrum. While some fans were against the idea of him joining the club in the summer, he could be an ideal replacement for Callum Wilson, whose Toon future is up in the air.
But if Calvert-Lewin were to move to St James’ Park, he would come in as deputy to Alexander Isak. In contrast, he is the main man at Everton, where the future could suddenly be a lot brighter.
This looming takeover could convince Calvert-Lewin to sign a new contract, and that would end Newcastle’s chances of finally striking a deal.
Everton want him to stay, and are working towards making that a reality.
