Newcastle United have already wrapped up a deal for Kyle Fitzgerald that will be officially completed later this month.
Due to the Profit and Sustainability Rules, Eddie Howe is expecting a quiet January in terms of transfer business.
But at the same time, last month Eddie Howe warned Newcastle’s squad could grow “stale” without any additions.
Financial restrictions may rule out any big-money moves being completed this month, but Newcastle are actively searching for cheaper alternatives and younger prospects who can develop into stars at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have already enjoyed success after selling Yankuba Minteh for profit having signed him as a young talent from Danish club OB. The latest youngster on Newcastle’s radar is Kyle Fitzgerald.

Newcastle United complete signing of Kyle Fitzgerald
Newcastle want to sign a winger this month and one is set to arrive on Tyneside later this month in the shape of Fitzgerald.
As per The Chronicle, Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign the 17-year-old Galway United winger.
Fitzgerald is set to complete his Newcastle move on January 28 – his 18th birthday. He is set to sign a professional contract with the Magpies before joining the Under-21 setup.
The report adds that Newcastle believe Fitzgerald has a genuine pathway to the first-team, but the second half of the 2024/25 campaign will be used to settle him into new surroundings.
Newcastle beat Premier League rivals Brighton and Wolves to the signing of Fitzgerald this month in what the club view as a big coup.
Who is Kyle Fitzgerald? Newcastle’s latest signing
Newcastle staff are clearly excited by Fitzgerald’s imminent arrival and a glance at his career so far shows exactly why.
Via GalwayBEO, Fitzgerald is described as an “Irish footballing prodigy” having risen through Galway’s academy from Under-14s level all the way to the first team.
Fitzgerald made his first-team debut for Galway last June and has made a huge impression in Ireland, where he has impressed Premier League scouts.
He will become the latest academy star to join Newcastle, where he will join fellow Galway graduate Alex Murphy, who moved to Tyneside in 2022.
Fitzgerald has already been capped at youth level for the Republic of Ireland and looks to be one of the most promising young talents coming through their ranks.
