Everything is in place for Newcastle United to sign Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, with fans eagerly awaiting official confirmation of the deal.

Newcastle made their first major breakthrough of the summer earlier this month, but are yet to ‘officially’ kick off their first-team recruitment drive ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

A deal is in place for Tonali to join the club. A fee of £55million is agreed with AC Milan and personal terms are finalised, while Toon officials travelled to Romania so the player could undergo a medical.

However, confirmation of the transfer has been put on hold. That is because Tonali has been competing at the Under-21 European Championship with Italy, but their tournament is now over after they were knocked out on Wednesday night.

That is going to accelerate this transfer, with the 23-year-old now due to travel to the North East to make the move official.

Newcastle likely to announce Sandro Tonali signing on Monday

According to i News, the transfer is ‘done and dusted’, and it is now likely that the club will announce the deal on Monday.

That means fans need to wait a few more days before they can officially welcome Tonali to Tyneside and hopefully see him in a black and white shirt for the first time.

He is an exciting addition, and someone who is very similar to Sven Botman and Alexander Isak in terms of profile. They arrived at a young age with the ability to shine immediately, with the club safe in the knowledge that they are going to get even better.

The same goes for Tonali, who Toon officials believe can be as good as Declan Rice in the coming years. That is an exciting prospect, and will highlight just how good a deal this is if it turns out to be the case.

Toonali is coming, with confirmation expected on Monday.
