Newcastle United are looking to do a deal with Southampton to sign Tino Livramento, who is a player with so much untapped potential.

The Magpies want to pay around £15million for the defender, and are confident that they can agree a deal with the Saints.

If Livramento does arrive, he will provide cover for Kieran Trippier, who is Eddie Howe’s number one right-back. However, with Trippier turning 33 in September, Newcastle will need to look towards the future soon.

And in Livramento, they will have a player who looks ready-made to take the England international’s place when the time arrives.

He is only 20-years-old, and has already excelled in the Premier League. The former Chelsea man was exceptional in his debut year with the Saints, which was sadly cut short due to a horrific ACL injury. Livramento returned to fitness at the back end of last season, but was unable to stop Southampton suffering relegation to the Championship.

Now it looks like he is going to receive an immediate route back to the Premier League with Newcastle, and Toon fans should be very intrigued by what Theo Walcott said about his Saints teammate back in November 2021.

What Theo Walcott said about Tino Livramento

Livramento signed for Southampton in 2021 from Chelsea, and immediately proved he could handle the rigours of the Premier League despite his tender age.

Just a few months after making his top flight debut, one of Livramento’s teammates was full of praise for the youngster.

Former Arsenal and England forward Theo Walcott spoke to TalkSPORT in November 2021, and admitted that Livramento reminds him of Gareth Bale when he first emerged through the Southampton academy.

“Do you know what, he reminds me a little bit of Gareth when he came through as a full-back,” he said.

“That’s a big statement of course to compare him to someone like that but just feel like his presence and the way he drives and the pace and the power and it’s no surprises that you know what he’s going to do.

“He’s so strong with the ball and very clever and technically he is fantastic.”

Walcott added: “I feel he will have a very good career.”

His career could soon take him to the North East, where Livramento will get the chance to play in the Champions League if he does secure a transfer to Tyneside.

He is an exciting talent, and the fact that Walcott thinks he is similar to Bale is incredibly promising.

They are both powerful runners from deep, with Bale starting his career in defence. Whether or not Livramento could player further up the pitch remains to be seen, but his technical ability and speed will make him a real attacking outlet from defence – much like Trippier is right now.
