Benjamin Sesko is not the only striker Newcastle United and Manchester United are battling to sign.
Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle fear Sesko will end up joining Manchester United, which would be a dreadful look for the club.
Newcastle have endured a miserable summer transfer window, which is compounded by the fact that Alexander Isak is seemingly doing all he can to leave.
Still, Newcastle do have doubts over Sesko. They reportedly believe RB Leipzig’s asking price for Sesko is too much for a player who still needs to be developed on the training pitch.
Eddie Howe is keen to add a new striker to the Newcastle United squad, regardless of what happens with Isak. Callum Wilson has already left the club this summer, opening up a space in the squad.
According to The Sun, both Newcastle and their Manchester rivals are interested in German international Nick Woltemade.
Still, Stuttgart have already spoken on his future.

Stuttgart have confirmed Nick Woltemade isn’t for sale
The 23-year-old starred as Germany reached the final of the U21 European Championships earlier this summer, where they were beaten by Tino Livramento’s England.
Woltemade, who came through the ranks at Werder Bremen before joining Stuttgart in 2024, scored six goals in five games for his country.
The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Bayern Munich but, speaking in July, Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle ruled out any prospect of him leaving this summer.
Talking of those links, Wehrle told Sky Sport Germany: “I made my position very clear five weeks ago and nothing has changed. Nick Woltemade will be playing football with us next year.”
Nick Woltemade stats amid Newcastle and Manchester United transfer battle
Woltemade enjoyed an impressive Bundesliga campaign last time out.
In only 17 starts, he bagged 12 goals and registered two assists. That’s only one fewer than Sesko, who made 30 starts.
| 2024/25 Bundesliga statistics | Nick Woltemade | Benjamin Sesko |
| Goals | 12 | 13 |
| Assists | 2 | 5 |
| Shots/90 | 1.8 | 2.1 |
| Key passes/90 | 1.3 | 0.6 |
| Dribbles/90 | 1.1 | 1.2 |
On a per game basis, their averages in some key attacking metrics do not show much difference.
Despite Stuttgart’s stance, Woltemade – at least on paper – does look like a more attainable star.
Whether he’s good enough to replace Isak is another matter entirely…
