Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall hasn’t hit the ground running at Chelsea.

The January transfer window is in full swing and Newcastle are looking to continue their push for a return to the Champions League.

Newcastle sit fifth in the Premier League table, just a point behind Chelsea. The Magpies lost to Chelsea in October before getting their revenge just a few days later in the Carabao Cup.

A Chelsea man who made an appearance in the League Cup was midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who played 57 minutes before being hauled off after a lacklustre performance.

Fabrizio Romano linked Dewsbury-Hall to Newcastle back in November but his performance at St James’ Park won’t fill fans with much hope he could become successful if he were to join.

A right-sided attacker is Newcastle’s priority in January with names like James McAtee and Bryan Mbeumo linked with a move to Tyneside.

However, despite any reluctance from fans, Romano has issued an update on Dewsbury-Hall’s situation that sporting director Paul Mitchell may keep an eye on.

Dewsbury-Hall has found consistent Premier League football hard to come by since being signed by Chelsea for £30million in the summer.

The 26-year-old has played just 55 minutes in the top flight so far this season across five appearances. He has been a frequent first-team player in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League campaign, however.

According to Romano, Dewsbury-Hall has been told by Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca that he can leave the club in January. He states that Chelsea will accept any “good bid” that comes in for the player in January.

Dewsbury-Hall was informed in December about their intention to sell him.

Toon boss Eddie Howe has informed Mitchell of his desired transfer targets in the January window – Newcastle need a forward, right winger and a shot-stopper. There’s hope that there will be room to manoeuvre in the transfer market so a central defender can also be signed.

Newcastle want Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov but it looks like Manchester City are set to land him.

Newcastle don’t need another midfielder

Newcastle’s midfield is full to the brim with a mix of young and experienced talents within the Magpies first-team squad.

There’s no doubt that the midfield is Newcastle’s strongest position – the trio of Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have become a force to be reckoned with in recent weeks.

If Newcastle were to sign Dewsbury-Hall, there’s no guarantee things would change for him. At the minute, the Magpies midfield trio seem undroppable even with the likes of Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff available.

Not to mention that Lewis Miley will most likely become the heir to the midfield in the coming years.
