It will be fascinating to see what happens with Newcastle United at the end of the season.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been unable to really strengthen his first-team squad since the summer of 2023, with the club opting not to invest in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Still, all that could change soon. Indeed, Newcastle insiders are confident they can spend this summer, having sold players of late while keeping their powder dry.
Hopefully, Howe’s squad is refreshed somewhat. While the Newcastle United manager is doing very well to paper over the cracks this season, there’s only so long he can keep going without new talents to work with.
One of the names linked with a move to St James’ Park is Feyenoord winger, Igor Paixao.
Newcastle scouted Paixao during his side’s Champions League win over AC Milan earlier this week and it’s fair to say he impressed England international Kyle Walker.

What Kyle Walker has said about Newcastle United transfer target Igor Paixao
Former Manchester City captain Walker made the move to the Serie A giants during the January transfer window and came up in direct opposition against Paixao.
The Feyenoord winger won UEFA’s Player of the Match Award, having scored the only goal of the game in Rotterdam to give the Dutch side a lead to take back to Italy next week.
Speaking about facing the man Newcastle have scouted, Walker told UEFA’s official website: “Paixao had a great game – congratulations to him, but we look forward and move on. There was disappointment in the dressing room.”
More performances like that in the Champions League and perhaps more eyes will soon be drawn to Paixao.
Igor Paixao would surely force Newcastle United into a sale
Paixao is able to operate on the right-hand side of the attack, though the bulk of his career appearances to date have come on the left.
With that in mind, any move to sign him would surely have to lead to a sale at Newcastle. Howe already has Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and even both Joelinton and Joe Willock as options at left-wing.
Barnes is believed to be frustrated by his lack of minutes, which perhaps explains why Newcastle are scouting a man who looks happiest on the left right now.
While signing good players in any position is always a bonus, the focus must surely be on getting a new right winger this summer…
